Smartcool's ECO³™ is a green technology that reduces the electricity consumption (kWh) and maximum demand (KW) of air conditioning and refrigeration compressors.

Rather than replacing existing equipment, the ECO³™ works in conjunction with existing controls and equipment in order to ensure that compressors work at maximum eciency, while maintaining preset temperatures and without causing over-cycling.

Smartcool’s copyrighted algorithms are used in the ECO3™ to optimize the functioning of the compressors in the air conditioning or refrigeration unit. Since these compressors are responsible for approximately 70% of the energy consumed by the entire cooling system, increasing their efficiency is a necessary step in reducing the overall energy consumption of the system. 

The ECO3™ achieves this energy efficiency gain by interfacing directly between the existing primary controller and the compressor to determine how often the compressor will run. By reducing the compressor’s overall run time, the ECO3™ saves an average of 15% kWh consumption while maintaining temperature and humidity requirements and without any impact on manufacturers’ warranties.

In many cases the ECO3™ may actually extend compressor life and reduce maintenance costs by improving the compressor’s overall performance and reducing its run time. At any time, the ECO3™ can be put into manual bypass, and in the event of any malfunction the unit automatically fails to safe.

The ECO3™ is available in two different models, as the ECO3™-Single or the ECO3™-Dual. The ECO³™ Single Channel is compatible with any air conditioning or refrigeration system with a single compressor. The Dual Channel model is compatible with any air conditioning system with two compressors. Both models wire directly into the control circuit between the existing control device and the compressor. Energy savings are easily monitored on the display, and the ECO³™ can be manually bypassed if desired. Energy consumption of the compressors is reduced without any impact on the temperature or humidity of the controlled space.

Smartcool provides a one year manufacturer’s warranty on all ECO3™ units.

Smartcool’s technology has over 26,000 installations worldwide, and has undergone significant independent third party testing, including field and laboratory tests by Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) on behalf of Wal-Mart, the University of Miami on behalf of Florida Power and Light (FPL) and Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP).  All of the results from these tests have been positive and have verified the effectiveness of the technology.
